Common questions about comparing cards

How do I choose a credit card?

Choose a credit card by matching its highest reward rates to the categories you already spend most in, then subtracting the annual fee from the rewards you would realistically earn. A card paying 5% on dining is worth less than a flat 2% card if dining is a small share of your spending.

Can I compare credit cards from different countries?

Yes. Woodo keeps a separate catalog per country because credit cards are licensed and priced per market, so a card available in Singapore cannot be opened from the United States. Select a country to see the cards actually issued there.

Does comparing credit cards affect my credit score?

Comparing credit cards does not affect your credit score. Only submitting an application triggers a hard inquiry, and browsing or filtering a comparison page does not.

How does Woodo rank credit cards?

Woodo ranks credit cards by annual fee and reward coverage. No issuer can pay to move a card up the list. Most comparison sites work the other way: Bankrate and WalletHub both disclose that advertiser compensation affects the order in which cards appear in their listings.

Do credit card comparison sites get paid to rank cards higher?

Many do. Bankrate discloses that its compensation may impact the order in which products appear within listing categories, and WalletHub discloses that advertising affects the order and prevalence of offers. Woodo separates the two: the ranked list is ordered by stated consumer criteria only, and any paid placement appears in a slot labelled as sponsored, outside that list.

How current is the card data?

Every card shows the date its details were last verified against the issuer or network source. Cards whose data passes the staleness threshold stop displaying rates and fees rather than showing an outdated number.

Woodo currently tracks 685 cards. Each is re-verified against its issuer or network source on a monthly schedule.
